What I Wore-Casual Skirt

Most of the time I think its way more comfortable to wear a skirt or dress with tights rather than jeans.  Jeans can be so much more constricting and squeeze your thighs.  I have yet to find a pair that I could live in...So, if you've found a pair of jeans that you love that are comfortable AND flattering let me know!

I did have the denim shirt tucked in but it looked really bumpy & bulgy underneath the skirt so I just tied it in front instead.

Shirt: F21
Skirt & belt: Maurices
Black tights: Marshalls I think
Boots: Bandolino
Purse: my favorite everyday vintage purse I carry everywhere!
Necklace: vintage pearls
Leather cuff bracelet: LaBella Perlina designs

On another note, is anyone else ready for spring or what?! By Feburary I am done with winter.  I'm ready for sunshine and warm air, spring flowers, green grass, buds on the trees....And, have you been seeing all these beautiful bright and washed out pastels for spring & summer? I am loving and ready to switch over my wardrobe!

Budoir tour

One of the questions I get asked the most running a vintage shop besides
"Where do you get all your stuff?"
 is
"So, is your house decorated 'with all this stuff'?"
I always say it is a work in progress because it is. It is constantly changing and evolving. (I'm sure that drives the hubs crazy, although he's probably used to my whims by now.) Anyway, just when I am satisfied with one little area, I will want to change another.  My home is my canvas. Items leave my home and head to the shop and vice versa! Sometimes I will decide I want to take something back home from the shop because well, really I would be very sad to sell it!

So, I decided I would start a little sorta "mini series" if you will, of snapshots of our humble abode.  I'm beginning w/the bedrooms.  My husbands and I's first (Mainly cause it needed a good cleaning/decluttering)  And, I want to document all the bedrooms looking clean!

Stephen picked out this bedding for us nearly 8 yrs. ago and I still love it!  Bamboo shades from Lowes and curtains from Target. My baby girl cheesin'.
This dresser was a mother's day gift that I had picked out.  Athough it is not mid-century modern in design it is still very old and I love it.

White shelf from Pottery Barn forevs ago. Barnwood or thrifted frames and vases.  On my dresser is a vintage oval vanity mirror which holds perfumes and some of my other very favorite photos. I love my stacked vintage jewelry boxes.  On top is my new "Live Creatively" leather cuff bracelet by La Bella Perlina designs.  It is awesome.

The nightstand lampshade is vintage, vase is from my sister and two of my favorite books One Thousand Gifts and the Bible. A vintage birdie print in a super cool frame and some wedding photos. :)

Welp, that concludes our bedroom tour. It has a certain shabby chic flair and I love having calming soothing colors in the bedroom. Athough it is small (I'd love to have a bigger closet and a master bath) it forces us to keep things orderly and to purge often.  I'm a firm believer that your bedroom should be your quiet retreat. A place to rest and recharge your soul.  So don't let bills or family laundry pile up in there!  :)

Goodnight ya'll! Thanks for stopping by my little place!

Just Vintage The Studio

Most of you know that I own a vintage home decor shop called Just Vintage.  I am still blown away that God has allowed me to be able to pursue this dream of mine and that He continues to provide so that I am able to do this for my job.  My husband is so super supportive and a great business partner too.  I do not ever take this for granted because I know what a big deal it is to have your own brick and mortar business!
Recently, we were approached with the opportunity to open up a "satellite" location for the shop at one of my favorite places; The Factory Art Studios. I was flattered and thrilled. I fell in love with this place a year or so ago going to visit my friend Darby at her studio,Underground Vintage.  It is in an old shoe factory complete with creaky wood floors, exposed brick and beams, industrial lighting, and just so much stinkin charm and character you want to scream.  The second floor now has over 30 artists from all over central Illinois who have and display their art.

Just Vintage at the Studio will be the perfect place for me to combine some of our great mid-century items and my art.  When I started painting 3 years ago I had no idea what I was doing(I still learn something new every time I work on a piece!) or that one day my art would be in an actual art studio!  I am so completely humbled by this and just sooo grateful to God for opening up this path for me.
This is what it looked like before my friends.  The walls were framed out but not finished.  Needless to say, Stephen and I had our work cut out for us, not to mention that the studio is an hour drive from home.  We gathered and used elements like old barn boards, corrugated metal, doors and shutters to finish our walls..really makes a nice backdrop for our pieces!

This past Saturday was our first "show"  and it was absolutely awesome let me tell ya. We got to chat with lots of people, be amongst fellow artisans, and eat great food all while listening to live music.  A fun highlight of the night ,which I got to be a part of, was a fashion show featuring all vintage and thrifted/refashioned clothing.  It was such a success that it will be happening again at a future show!

Thanks to all of you who have supported me and encouraged me in pursuing my passions and following my dreams.  It has been & will continue to be an incredible journey!

The Farmhouse Market

Last weekend I got to set up for my shop Just Vintage and hang out at The Farmhouse Market with my friend Darby of Underground Vintage Studio.  We had a blast "shopping" our own booth.  We love supporting each other's small businesses and encouraging each other to pursue our dreams!  I am thankful Every. Single. Day that I am able to do what I love for a "job."
It is not work.  It is fun.
What a blessing.
And the weather was absolutely gorgeous that day!

All Smiles.

Vintage treasures!

Handmade rosette necklaces and hair accessories

Purchased one of Darby's hoop arts for meself.
Ornamental lawn owls. Love
Jackson was our audience as we ate our lunch. :)
Gracey. Eeeeee.
Metal wire baskets=stylish storage

I want this metal glider.

We jabbered all day.

And, of course I couldn't leave ya hanging without a couple pics of my babies.  Max got "glow in the dark" jammies from gma Lila and gpa Alan and here is standing under the lamp "charging" them so they glow better once he goes to bed. :)

And my baby girl with bed head. Her hair is always wild when she gets up from her naps!
Thats all for now friends!

Fishing, before & after photos

I've mentioned Walnut Point State Park practically situated in our back yard. Stephen loves to take the boys fishing there & Evelyn and I love to walk the trails and play at the park..We all went last Sunday and just enjoyed being out in nature together.

Okay, now, I'm just gonna go up this ramp, down these stairs and then circle back around again. and again. and again.

Big brother Will helps Max 'release' his bluegill.

Max is becoming quite the angler.  He caught 5 fish this day. I'm so proud.

And here are some before & after photos of just a couple of projects I've been working on.  I've always got several projects lined up but I am trying to share these with you more!
If you are a local reader, all of these items are for sale in my shop. :)

circa 1940's metal kitchen cabinet before
And after.  It was filthy & rusty in areas.  I scrubbed, sanded, & painted it into an awesome looking display piece.
These bentwood "Eames" style chairs came from the Uof I dorms.  They were in rough shape so I decided to paint them..

And after:in a bright cheery red that looks awesome paired with this oval yellow top chrome table. The curves of the chair's arms complement the shape of the table as well.  And, there are still 2 chairs left unpainted for those "leary" over the red paint.

Evelyn just loves "helping" herself to our corner snack, bread, breakfast cabinet.  We can not keep her out of it. She usually goes for the giant marshmellows for smores fixins'.  She is so fast & sneaky and here she has found mommy's tortilla chips, ran to the couch with them and is sharing them with Max.  It was so funny & cute I couldn't "scold" her and had to get a pic! :)

Blessings

Art Studio Trip & WIW

On Wednesday Evie & I took a little road trip down to Sullivan, IL, situated on the N. side of Lake Shelbyville, to visit our friend Darby who owns Underground Vintage Studio & to check out some of the other artists who have their studios set up in this awesome old warehouse pinned The Factory Art Studios. Seriously, there is way to much coolness all in one space. I could just gawk for hours, well we did pretty much stay for about 2 hrs! Darby is super sweet & an extremely talented seamstress, crafter, artist! In fact you can hop on over to my sister's blog, Marigold Road & watch for a chance to enter & win some of her goodies!

And, I was gonna try to do my first What I wore Wed. link up but failed to do so on time. :) But I thought I'd share these photos with y'all anyways. Max actually took some of them & I had some fun playing with Picnik!

Cool hoop art in photo is by Underground Vintage.

Shirt & Boots:Target', Skirt & Belt:Maurices, Tights:Marshalls, Rosette Necklace by me, Headband is actually a brooch by Darby. Evie is rockin' jeans & black onsie by Carters(we have an outlet 15 min. from our house!) & headband by me at Just Vintage. :)

And check out this amazing stuff from Yellow Dog Studio. His furniture is all handcrafted from reclaimed wood. A.Mazing.

I would like any one of these dining tables to be one of my dining tables please. Maybe for Christmas?? A girl can dream. She's gotta dream. Dream big..

And how bout this vintage patio furniture? I'd like to own it as well.
This is Darby's couch (i envy it also) & some of her fabulous pillows
And here is Darby & my baby princess.

Darby's vintage & handcrafted goodies. I think Evelyn needs the "Dream" hoop art. Seriously, I think I have a problem. Lord, help me.
