Homeade sidewalk paint

Looking for something to do with your kiddos?  How about homeade sidewalk paint?!  I found this wonderful easy recipe on pinterest & thought, "Oh my goodness, we have to try  that." With the cooler temps this is the absolute perfect fall activity. And the kids get to make a big "mess"!  And use paint brushes!
So here is the easy peasy recipe:
1 cup water
1cup corn starch
food coloring.
I mixed the water & cornstarch in a bowl then poured into a little cupcake pan.  I let the kids drop food coloring into each little section.  We made our own orange & purple by mixing the colors too!  Thats it!  Then grab some paintbrushes & head outside!

$2.50 Floral Skirt

Yes, you read that right. I found this adorable little flower skirt for $2.50cents at a nice consignment shop back in my hometown.  I was going to save it for fall but decided to go ahead & get it out early.  I did have it on without the leggings but then realized if I only slightly bent forward, you could see my butt cheeks...no good. So, I paired the leggings underneath & it was a super comfy look.  I love mixing browns & blacks now. I would have never done that a few years ago but now it looks cool!

Swim

Seems Summer is sneakin' by awful quickly. Can't hardly believe it is July already.  Normally, we would have visited our local swimming hole many times by now, but w/the mild weather & all the rain & all the busyness we've been once.  We got out the small pool at home for a couple days but finally got our first trip in to the pool.

I love this little small town pool with all its awesome vintage charm.  Besides being a laid-back pool (it rarely feels crowded), the pool house screams mid-century.  I want to steal all the vintage wire locker baskets and the wonderful old metal signs, industrial lighting & fans.
The kids love to come here. Its only 12 minutes from our house so hopefully our July will be filled with many visits to our local swimming hole.

Wear

I wore this outfit to work the shop this past Saturday.  Turquoise/aqua is my fave color.  I was a little leary of a pencil skirt on my 5'  1& 1/2" frame but with the wedges I think it works.

Polka dot shirt: forever 21
pencil skirt: J-Crew factory
Belt: old navy
Wedges: Target
Earrings: vintage my shop

Hope your week is well!

Indianapolis Zoo

It's a rare day when we "don't have anything going on". Between the shop, Stephen's teaching schedule, & other obligations it seems the days when the four of us can all be together are few. Recently, we took advantage of one of those rare days and took the kids to the zoo.  We took in all the sights, sounds, even smells.  Max has been saying lately that he wants to be a marine biologist. He wants to know if he has to wait till he is a grown up to be one.  He'd like to be one now.  I've told him its never to early to start learning how to be one.  So, it wasn't surprising that his favorite activity was getting to touch the sharks.  We also got to take in a dolphin show.  I'd actually never been to one so I was pretty excited too. :)

This photo cracks me up.  The best one of mommy & the kids.

This is where Max got to touch the sharks.

The little princess seemed to be more interested in staring at all the other kids.  Especially the babies.  "Look Evelyn, Zebras! Monkeys! Lions&tigers&bears oh my!" " Look Mom, Baby! Kids!"

Baby bunnies & before & after photos

Well, most of the flood waters have receded although it is still raining here more than normal.  We had 3 wonderful days in a row of warmth and sunshine so we were outside as much as possible.  We found this nest of baby bunnies and it became endless hours of fun to just "watch after them."  It was very hard to resist not pick them up and hold them and pet them but we still certainly enjoyed them! Maybe one of these days I will have a rabbit for a pet again! :)

We counted 7 bunnies. 2 of them were kinda outside of the nest as they were getting to big to all fit in there.  We checked on them yesterday and the bunnies were gone.  They have "flown" the nest. Out on their own in the big big wide world.

And here is a little table I did a makeover on. Paid $3 for it at a garage sale.  It had great lines but needed some "oomph"

So I sanded it down and gave it a bright coat of yellow paint. Then I resurfaced the top with vintage book pages for a fun & whimsical look.  This would make a great nightstand or smaller coffee table.

This guy also had some great lines but needed a pick me up as well.

So, i gave it a coat of white paint then sanded it a bit and sealed with clear poly.  I just love it now. Isn't he handsome? I would use in a kids room for books & toys  or in a dining room as a bar cabinet with cute glasses & an icebucket & bottles on the bottom.

Both of these items are for sale in my shop.   But hurry in before I decide to keep them. :)

Wishing my momma & momma in law & all my momma friends out there a wonderful fabulous Mother's Day. You deserve it & are appreciated!

The Flood & The Kids "posing" in my new green chair

Hello all! It's hard to believe nearly a month has gone by since my last post. April, where have you gone?!  Some of the things we have been up to in April:
1.  Had our first big sidewalk sale at the shop which was a huge success..We saw close to 250 people on those 2 days.  We were exhausted. In a good way. ;)
2.  Have hosted and gone on playdates gallore.
3.  Cleaned out half the garage
4. Made it to family doctor's appointments.
5.  Maintained a strict workout regimen(min. 5 days a week)  Jillian Michaels has been kicking my butt.
6.Mops events/fundraisers
7.  Bought a "new' vintage green chair. I adore the lines.  It is staying in my house. :)
8. Survived, & are currently surviving the great flood happening in Illinois. Have you heard about us on the news?  Our house has been on an island but miraculously we can still get to our driveway..
We have received triple the amount of rainfall that is considered normal.  It has rained roughly14 out of the last 20 days.  Lord, I am ready for sunshine!
Max is giving his "serious" look he told me in this picture.  Evelyn had been playing dressup.
9. AND, just dealing with the every day. Ya know; school, work, shop, homework, projects for the shop, laundry, cooking , cleaning, bills, yadayadayada.

Brother/sister kisses.. in my "new" green chair.

Cheeese!!

Max uses his hands/fingers alot when he talks, just like his daddy.  He has pretend tatoos on his arms.  Evelyn has wanted to wear her new pink star leggings everyday..

Here is a view outside our front window.  Looked like we lived across the road from a lake

If you look very closely, you can see ducks swimming about our fire pit. This is a shot of our side yard, water up to the driveway.

Our neighbors barns

If you look closely, you can see part of our white house upper left corner.

Vintage treasures!

I love going treasure hunting for my shop & home.  The only problem is that often times I want to keep what I have found for the shop.  It is a challenge, but I also don't want to be put on "hoarders" so  if I decide to keep something for the home, something else has to go to the shop. And, sometimes I'll bring something back home from the shop.  I can switch things up if I feel like it.  My home & shop are always changing.  My poor husband.  "oh, yes, by the way honey, I decided to rearrange the living room while you were at work today."
I go "shopping" for the shop every week to keep new things coming in.  Sometimes I only have a couple hours here & there to squeeze it in and usually I have to drag one of the kids with me.  But they are troopers about it. Seriously.  They are gonna be scoutn' for me by the time they are teenagers.  They will know the ropes.
The latest vintage treasures from my last shopping trip: Clockwise from top left: little metal boxes w/plastic drawers perfect for sitting on your desk for office or craft supplies.  My plan is to peel off those labels & give em a good scrub.  might even spray paint the fronts of the little drawers, metal globe w/zodiac signs, set of 4 aqua & gold glasses, old metal fan & milk glass sugar container, silly owl coffee mug,  1956 better homes & gardens decorating book. (I am keeping this.) :}

And the biggest score: A set of  vintage industrial adjustable seat drafting stools.  I love the wooden seat with the metal back & legs.  If you know anything about design or decorating, you will know that the "industrial" look is the new up & coming style. I found 3.  I will keep 1 to put at my art table & I suppose I will have to sell the pair.  If I had a bar height kitchen island/table in my house, well, lets just say they would all be staying in my house.  heehee:)

And, whilst mommy was busy snapping all of these photos of my newfound vintage treasures, Evelyn climbed up in "the wagon"-thats what we call our suv-and decided to drive in mommy's seat. She even found my giant diet coke.  I had left the door open after unloading all of my treasures and the little princess found her way in.  Don't worry gma's & gpa's, the keys were Not in the wagon!

Winter's Last Hurrah-Hopefully!

We had a blizzard blow through, hopefully the last one of the season.  Rather than wallow inside, we got out and embraced the winter white wonderland. Max had a snow day and the kids were super excited to get out and build a Mr. Frosty, make snow angels and throw snow balls.  We even sang "Frosty the Snowman" whilst building our new friend. Evelyn fell in love with Mr. Frosty over the holidays.  She was a super trooper the entire time until it came time for the photo shoot with Frosty.  Then, she was "all done," "Go inside momma."  Ok, sweet girl, lets get some quick pictures then we can go inside for some hot chocolate.

Max said, "I'll hold his hand ok?!"

She was joyful until picture time. :)

Max loves to take pictures. Even with unwilling participants.

Frosty is sportn' Daddy's vintage hot doggon ski cap. :)

Cheers to Mr. Frosty. Its been real. Now move on over for the Easter bunny.
