I love this boy!

My Max turned 6 yesterday!  Oh, how the time flies.  They tell you all the time how the time flies, but when you are getting little sleep, lost in laundry and dirty diapers, and your body is producing milk by the gallons, the time does not seem to fly by.  It comes in and settles for a while.
Looking back I can honestly say that yes, they are right, it will fly by. You will wake up one morning and they will be off to school, they will be reading, they won't be pooping in their pants,(hopefully), they will be dressing themselves and helping you out around the house.
AND, looking back I am now glad the time seemed to settle and linger.  You have a short window of time to bask in their seemingly angelness, breathe in the deep "baby" smell and relish in the innocence and 100 percent dependence on You.  The nursing, burping and rocking in the chair will end.
I think about the nights of little sleep and thankful that I can get my 8 hrs. now because I think at some point sleepless nights may come around again.  When he is out with his friends, off to college, building dreams and a career; I will wake up and worry. PRAY. And wish I could hold him and rock him in my arms again.

Max was so proud to wear his Birthday Boy badge to his first art show at the Factory Art Studios
Me and my guy, staying out late. Way way way way past bedtime.

Max's "big" present was a new big boy bike.  I think Evelyn was more excited about it than he was.  The $5 gifts seemed to win. Of course

Make a wish!

At 6 years old Max is incredibly friendly & social. He is friends with everyone and can talk to grown-ups and children alike.  He is laid back and easy going and is always eager to please.  He is obedient and receptive to instruction and ready to help.  He is intelligent and loves to learn.  He is kind and caring. He enjoys books about real life animals, bugs, dinosaurs, outer space.  National Geographic Kids magazine is one of his favorites.  He loves hot wheels, Cars2, and can spend hours w/markers & giant coloring pages or building tracks for his hot wheels.   He is also very good at manipulating & persuading, "brokering deals",if you will, to get what he wants.  Perhaps he will be a lawyer or go into politics with his ultra-popular persuasive ways.  :)  He is a wonderful big brother (most of the time) and is protective of his baby sister.  He's also a great little brother, able to "hang" with the big boys.

A Max Story:
Just a few nights ago, Max had a concert event for school.  He had already gotten to see the concert once already that afternoon but the guy was also performing that evening.  Max was soo so so excited & dying to go to the "dance party" at school again.  I was exhausted. I had been gone 3 of the last 4 nights & I knew my husband would be too when he got home from work which would have been just in time for him or me to leave and take Max to the "party".  Somehow, I mustered up the energy to go and changed out of my pjs.  My husband walked in the door from work & 2 minutes later Max & I were out the door.  (You know those hey honey!, bye honey! moments?!)

Max quickly found some friends and as I sat and watched ( I really watched him and not the performer most of the time) I could just feel the joy permeating from him.  And, suddenly, there it was, in the midst of his air guitars & head banging, he runs over to me and throws his arms around me and says, "I love you mom!"  In that one moment it made it all worth it.  It was all I could do to utter back "I love you too, honey, so so very much" and not become a hot mess of tears in front of the other parents, students and teachers.

happy happy birthday my sweet boy!
Love,
Mom
