Evie's Room; Vintage Goodies

This post has a little bit of everything.

My sister Mindy and I's love for vintage blossomed at an early age. We saw our parents' love and appreciation for antiques and vintage things growing up. The thrill of hunting for that special something is half the fun. They certainly passed down this "gene" to us girlies..Mindy, her daughter Story and my mom recently made the long trek out here to visit. It meant so much to have them and although the visit was short, I will cherish those moments. They help me get through to the next time I will get to see them.

1970's S&P shakers, vintage reversible apron, 1950's "Chocolate Treats" small recipe book.

Vintage earrings, yellow necklace, blue/green necklace and bracelet. Total $8.

We had a "photo shoot" with our little girlies, in matching dresses from Grammie Lila. It was hilarious. Sister insisted on more lighting so she turned this lamp on that we have but never use cause if you do it smells like burnt ladybugs and, well, it stunk up the whole room & grammie was walking around with the air freshener spray & Evie couldn't sit up on her own for that long and there was slobber & drool & leg rolls &....I laughed so hard I cried. God knew I needed that.

Preciousness and beauty and purity.

Evie's room.

Blocks & toy are vintage. Booties were a gift from Gpa. Richard. His momma made them in the 1940's in hopes that he would be a girl. I had the wooden shelf and painted and distressed it. Button frame I made, vintage little girl pic. found for $5. The book holders on the wall I found at garage sale for .20 cents & I painted & distressed them & filled with vintage children's books.
The picture with them is vintage from Auntie Mindy.
Crib was Edwards, then Will, then Max and now Evie. :)) Rocker is antique from Gma. Elaine
Changing table was Maxs and the small pink vintage hamper was a gift from my Aunt Tam a long time ago. Evelyn blankie from cousins Ben & Hannah. The pink teddy was her first "pink thing" from Childrens Hospital in St. Louis. The "E" hook was Anthropologie sale.

Baby girl is thriving. A Trip is scheduled to Childrens Hospital St. Louis in May.

For a short time

Although pregnancy may seem to drag on, it is only for a brief time in our lives that we are blessed with the responsibility of "growing" our babies. How special, miraculous and beautiful this truly is. Whenever I see a burgeoning belly my heart skips a beat for that life growing inside..However common it may seem, it is spectacular. I wanted to be sure to capture this pregancy with some photos, so I called on my friend Kara.

My princess angel of love and joy. This was the first photo session around 10 wks. old. It was a short one since my little girl was hungry and tired. We did another photo shoot at around 14 wks. so be watching for them to show up later.

Night In A Museum

It is 7 degrees right now, -3 with the wind chill. Like most of you, we too have been getting the best of old man Winter. Last week we were in the worst winter storm in this area since the 60's. We received about 2 inches of ice topped with 3-4 in. of snow which quickly hardened with the sub zero & single digit temps. Then, when we thought it was all over, we received another 4 inches.

At around 5pm last Tues. we lost our electricity. At that time we still had about 20 min. of daylight so we scurried around gathering candles, matches, flashlights and I began to frantically pack bags for the family. Two hrs. later it was down to 66 in the house, still bearable but chilly, and then Tadaa! We had electricity again. We cranked up the heat, got the babies fed and bathed & into their snuggly beds. I decided to take a nice hot shower now that we had electricity again that way if it went out again I'd be good to go. You see, when we lose power, we also lose water since we have well water. Well, wouldn't ya know, BAM, there goes the electricity again. And where was I? Yes, mid shower, standing there in the dark with wet hair. You have got to be kidding me?! Those were probably the nicest words that left my mouth. :) Anyeeway, we decided to stay put as it was already after 9 and the kids were already asleep. We survived the night but all were up by 5:30am and now it was COLD in the house.

That morning our wonderful landlords had called and told us we could stay at her mother's place. She has recently passed and her home is still full of furniture and all the necessities. We took them up on it as no one was for sure how long it would be before we had electricity again. I was like the mother bird flitting about her nest that morning trying to keep her babies warm and gather up everything we needed. We knew that the house was built in 1875 so we weren't surprised to pull up to this eye candy, but when we opened the door our jaws hit the floor. Every piece of furniture was an antique. We got to spend the night in this "museum" and we felt so blessed to have a warm place to stay. I have never been so thankful for electricity in my life. I am NOT the pioneering kind of woman. I appreciate what they went through and I enjoy hearing the stories and seeing the pictures, but no thank you.

Even though it doesn't look it, it was actually quite dark when Stephen took this pic. Perhaps Max & I's eyes give that away. We were still in somewhat good spirits as the electricity hadn't been out for too long. Well,Evelyn had had enough already. :)

I got camera happy. :)

Does anybody know what this thing is? Very pretty but what is it?

Max & his silly Christmas tree that dances and sings and lights and is just obnoxious but he loves it and there was no putting it away into the Christmas totes.

My sweet precious angel of love and joy and her beauty scar.

Happy girl

31. Really?!

I feel like I just turned the big 30 yesterday. 30 proved to be a big year in many many
ways. More than just entering a "new decade". My son turned 3, I found out I was finally pregnant, I started a business (The Vintage Garage-I will delve more details at another post), traveled to the ocean, my oldest stepson became a teenager, and I found out that my baby had a rare congenital heart defect. My life changed in that moment. It was a very very heart wrenching soul searching year; very tough. But, God had a plan. I grew more in this year than in any other I believe. It was not how I would have planned it but thats just the point. God's ways are better than our ways and His plans are better than our plans. I learned to trust in Him, really trust in Him, rely on His strength and cling to His mercy and grace. He certainly
proved His faithfulness to me and that He is indeed BIGGER than anything we face!

The best birthday present ever! Cuddle Time

Max says, "Oh sweet baby girruull!"

Uh, you think she may have my eyes? ;)

Enough picures now Momma. I'm serious.
